I’m a passionate coach applying what I know to help other athletes reach and maintain their maximum levels of performance. I combined a varied and unique background to position myself as the coach who can help endurance athletes reach their performance goals. I’ve been there, done that, and now want to help others achieve success.
I grew up as a sports-mad kid, and my repertoire included competitive swimming, soccer, rugby and rock climbing. Swimming was my first love, and I had aspirations of a collegiate swimming career; however, a turn in the road led me to the military where I pursued a career in swimming. The U.S. Navy designated me a helicopter search-and-rescue swimmer (the guys who jump out a helicopter, to rescue people in the ocean), and I held the distinction of being one of the best Helicopter Rescue Swimmers in the United States Navy, Coast Guard, and Marines.
While deployed, I took up cycling and running as well, enjoying 5k road races along with swim meets on base. Not long after that, I entered my first sprint triathlon and was hooked. I’m an elite amateur triathlete, former NCAA Division III Cross Country runner, and NSLA ocean surf and beach rescue lifeguard.
In the Navy, I served as the training officer for 70 rescue swimmers. Before an honorable discharge from the military, Penn State accepted me to pursue a B.S. degree in Kinesiology. I’ve completed in-depth studies of exercise physiology, kinesiology, anatomy, nutrition and sport psychology, and apply what I know as part of my coaching methodology.
TriGuy Multisport Coaching, launched in 2009, is the culmination of my experiences and education. I know the challenges athletes face to achieve their best, having faced the same things myself. I’ve combined my educational experiences and background to provide endurance athletes with training plans, webinars, endurance and nutritional information, and personal coaching that will help unlock your potential and truly achieve your maximum performance.

Jake's work takes place in two Upper Valley venues: at the Indian River Middle School and at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center. At the former, Jake accepted the programmatic baton pass from In the Arena alum Ben True, who started the IRMS XC Team. Through the two sports of running and swimming, Jake writes he "hopes to help athletes develop a sense of pride and accomplishment from their efforts in sports. I remember how difficult running and swimming were when I was young (so many other sports were less work!) but I was blessed with coaches who made them fun and who helped build my love for competition and for the sports themselves." He further points out that, "I will be working with athletes of all competition levels, so a challenge will be to make each young man and woman's individual experience everything that they want it to be."

2011 represented a year of big changes and success for Alicia. Formally an athlete focused on ITU racing, she transitioned into Olympic distance non-draft triathlon. Since then, Alicia has finished 2nd in the Lifetime Series twice (2011 & 2012) and won the Lifetime Series and the Toyota Triple Crown in 2013. Her 2014 season is focused on competing at the Hy Vee 51.50 Championship and the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon Series.
Alicia grew up in Canada and began participating in triathlon when she was 11 years old; she became a professional triathlete at the age of 14. Alicia spent her teen years racing triathlon while juggling her academic studies. While completing her undergraduate degree in Sport Psychology she met fellow triathlete and now husband, Jarrod Shoemaker. Since meeting Jarrod she has began racing for the United States and also completed her masters degree in Athletic Counseling. Some of Alicia's proudest moments include winning Canadian Junior National Championships in 2001, and winning the St. Anthony’s Triathlon in 2013. In her spare time Alicia works as a mental trainer and runs a skincare company with her husband Jarrod, called Endurance Shield.

Lisa has been involved in triathlon since 2010 when she completed her first Triathlon, and since then she has raced all distances up to half-ironman. One day, Lisa hopes to complete an Ironman. When not competing, Lisa spends her days teaching 4th grade in a South Jersey public school. Lisa has been involved in coaching first-time triathletes since 2013 with TriGuy Coaching and also teaching indoor cycling at Virtua’s Center for Health and Fitness in Voorhees. In her spare time, you will find Lisa giving back to the sport, coaching with us or sharing triathlon with people she meets.
